Pravara Public School
Though the world has shrunk into a global village, English has retained its supremacy as a link language, both the world over and within India, considering its diversity in languages, culture, castes and creed. During the 50’s and early 60’s, rural children were sorely deprived of quality education through English medium, which was then available only to the urban elite. Though he lacked formal education, young Vitthalrao was ahead of his times in several ways. He drew an action plan for “Operation Blackboard” to empower the children of the farming community not only for their sustainable growth and development but also for enabling them to take their rightful place in steering the destiny of the country itself.
Today, Loni-Pravaranagar boasts of six English Medium Schools, namely Pravara Public School, Pravara Central Public School, Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Sainik School, Pravara Girls English Medium School , Pravara High School, Kolhar and Padmabhushan Balasaheb International School.
Pravara Public School was established on 6th July 1964 by Padmashri Dr.Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, a great visionary and pioneer of cooperative movement in India. Padmashri envisioned the rural masses enjoying political , social and economic freedom. It was therefore necessary to provide quality education to the children of the peasantry to facilitate taking their rightful place in the emerging society. Padmashri Vikhe Patil wanted to bring quality education within the reach of farmers and bridge the urban –rural divide. It sounded like a Utopian dream but he overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles and moved forward with his maiden venture of starting an English medium residential public school under the aegis of Pravara Rural Education Society.
Pravara Public School has grown from strength to strength since its inception in 1964 with a handful of teachers and 27 students in a thatched shed. The growth of this institution spread over 37 acres of land has been phenomenal under the enlightened leadership of Padma Bhushan Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, former Union Minister and a veteran Parliamentarian. The school runs on the British Public School Model and is a member of the prestigious Indian Public Schools Conference since 1971. The lush green campus is dotted with a swimming pool, a baby pool, one 400m. athletic cinder track, 4 basketball courts, 2 cricket pitches, 2 football grounds, 2 hockey fields, 2 volleyball courts, 2 senior and 2 junior hostels with four houses each,8 holding houses, an audio- visual lab, three computer labs, separate physics, chemistry and biology labs and 45 blocks of staff quarters. In collaboration with Educomp solutions Ltd. the classrooms have been converted into smart classes and every concept taught in the class can be visibly experienced making the learning process simpler.
The school has been producing excellent academic results both qualitatively and quantitatively. For the last seven consecutive years we have had 100% result at the SSC and HSC Board Exams. Vast majority of our students have passed the exams securing either distinction or first class.
At the second QCI National Quality Conclave in February 2007 Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, then President of India, stressed the need for development of a standard for the schools to ensure quality of education across the nation. In line with this recommendation QCI has developed the Accreditation Standard for Quality School Governance. And we are very proud to say that our school was accredited by NABET, QCI last year. The accreditation by NABET is an acknowledgement of the effective management and delivery of the holistic education for the all-round development of the students in the school.
The school is marching ahead with a wide variety of life changing activities under the inspirational leadership of Dr. Ashok Patil, Executive Chairman, Pravara Rural Education Society. It aims to inculcate in children knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and behavior patterns that are desirable for them as individuals and as members of society.
